The Nebraska Team Nutrition is a three-part grant program. The first part entitled Smarter Luncheon evaluated the amount of food given and the amount of food waste within school cafeterias in the Lincoln area. This stage aimed to improve the consumption of healthy food while also reducing food waste. The second stage focused on increasing awareness of a healthy diet and physical activity to child growth, health, and learning and to develop statewide infrastructure to promote healthy school environments that support nutrition, nutrition education, and physical activity. The third and final stage is still ongoing. This expands nutritional training to include the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines for afterschool care centers, adult and child day care center, day care homes, and emergency shelters. In additional, a social media marketing campaign is being started to increase knowledge and awareness of CACFP guidelines.
